ABOUT ME
My career in screw machines began shortly after I graduated from High School in 1975.  I was the first person hired by Cambion (Pittsfield, NH) to learn how to repair Escomatics.  I was trained by Wally Andresson and Dave Smallidge, with additional input from Tom Gerrity.
I eventually became 2nd shift Lead Person and then 1st shift Foreman in charge of all 3 shifts.  Part of my job was to train others in set up and repair of Escos.

A move farther north in NH led to a job change.  Working at Mar-Cam I learned to set up and program Swiss-style CNC machines, eventually becoming Foreman.

When approached to set up a small multi-spindle screw machine department at MacNeill Worldwide, a plastics manufacturing facility, I took the challenge.   I worked my way up to become Manufacturing Services Manager in charge of the Tool Room, Plant Maintenance, and the Screw Machine Dept.

Several years later, I was approached again, this time by Elpakco, to establish a manufacturing facility in NH.  This entailed finding a suitable building, getting it ready, moving in the machines, and finally building and training a crew.  We started with 12 Escos, and when we had grown to 28 machines it was time to find a bigger space.   The shop was expanded twice until finally a much larger piece of the complex was purchased.  At that point, the machines numbered 86.  The shop could not have grown to that level without being diligent in keeping costs down and being extremely creative in its repairs.  I did the layouts and cut the cams, and trained others to do the same.  Rather than buying new replacement machine parts, finding methods to refurbish worn parts was a necessity.  I attribute my philosophy as General Manager - "Don't spend it if you don't have to" - as one of the key components in the company's survival even in this current economic downturn.

Establishing Scanalex Machine has given me the opportunity to pass these savings along to other companies.  What company cannot benefit from saving money in repairs, as well as saving downtime with a quicker turnaround than waiting for parts from Switzerland?  My methods of repair and refurbishing machine parts can save you hundreds and thousands of dollars.  I have personally seen repairs that others have attempted to do, trying to duplicate my methods.   Not all the surfaces were properly ground which means you lose adjustment and long-term functionality of the part.  Sometimes years of "experience" may not reflect a true hands-on understanding of the Escomatic which is what is needed to repair these machine parts.

So before you throw out that worn Escomatic part, ask me if I can bring it back to life.  A lot of the parts you toss out could be back on your spare parts shelf, ready to use again.  That drive coupling (#D6-9-56) will cost you over $600 from Switzerland or others, plus downtime.  Scanalex Machine can refurbish your old one with new sleeves for $325.
I can make your old box of used parts worth something
and save you money!
